The Saints Unable to Respond to the Phillippines' Early Lead
PASADENA, CA – The Philippines Baseball Group (1-19) earned their first win of the season against the Arroyo Seco Saints (12-17) tonight at Jackie Robinson Memorial Field.
Previously, the Saints were on a three-game winning streak; however, the Philippines have been looking for their first win. The Saints just could not find success, capitalizing on only 1 of 14 runners-on-base opportunities.
Things were looking up for the Saints at the bottom of the first inning. The Saints only allowed the Philippines one run, but quickly answered back. Evan Reiter (Santa Ana College) scored the Saints' first run from Jacob Freer's (Undecided) RBI double. Later, Freer scored the Saints' second and final run of the night due to a pass ball.
Over innings two, three, and four, the Philippines extended their lead to 6-2.
With the help of Angel Escobar (Mississippi Valley State) and Christian Martinez (Undecided), the Philippines could not extend their lead. Unfortunately, the Philippines' defense also remained consistent, not allowing the Saints to make a comeback.
Working to start another winning streak, the Saints are set to play the San Diego Bombers tomorrow. Come watch the first pitch at 5:35 p.m. at Jackie Robinson Memorial Field.
