Saints Start Playoff Push
For the third time in their last six games, the Arroyo Seco Saints are set to face the Conejo Oaks and further their chances at making a postseason appearance.
PASADENA, CA - For the third time in their last six games, the Arroyo Seco Saints (11-16) are set to face the Conejo Oaks (17-9) and further their chances at making a postseason appearance.
The Saints are just behind the Academy Barons (15-12) in the standings and are now four games removed from a playoff spot. After Arroyo Seco fought in extra innings against the Barons on Tuesday, winning 9-8 in 10, they were able to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Being down by three in the bottom of the ninth inning, it looked like the Saints' fate was sealed. However, they were able to storm back with the help of Jacob Freer (Undecided) and Carson Panarisi (Cal State Los Angeles).
Freer started the big inning with a sac fly to get the Saints closer to tying the game up, bringing in Dylan Immel (Undecided). Panarisi followed with a huge two-RBI triple, tying the game and giving the Saints a chance to win in extra innings.
Brayden Flores (Loyola Marymount University) won the game for the Saints with a sac fly to right to score Brody Chyr (University of Nebraska), giving the Saints their fifth win in the month of July.
Many of the Saints have commented on their improved performance as a team in July and are looking to stay hot.
Against the Conejo Oaks last Saturday, the Saints were able to rally back from being down by four to win it 5-4 in the ninth. Sunday was a different story, however, when they were unable to hold onto their four-run lead in the fifth and dropped the game 8-4.
First pitch against the Oaks is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. tonight and can be streamed on the Arroyo Seco Saints YouTube Channel.
