Saints Late Game Defeat Against the Barons
Arroyo Seco were defeated 14-1 to the Academy in late innings rallies.
COMPTON, CA- The Arroyo Seco Saints (5-10) fell 14-1 to the Academy Barons (8-7) in a late game defeat on June 24th.
Saints two way player, Wyatt Toth (Undecided) took the mound as starting pitcher and designated hitter at the MLB Youth Academy.
Wyatt Toth dominated in his start, pitching five innings and giving up two runs on six hits.
Although with a strong performance, as reflected in the three batters Toth struck out and a successful pick off in the fifth, the Saints were unable to keep the score even in later innings.
After loading the bases in the first, the Barons scored their first run on a sacrifice fly. Toth went on to get out of that jam with a double play from the assist of the Saints infield.
Sean Asperger (Undecided) hit his first home run of the season. The 353 foot blast to right field had an exit velocity of 99 and was the only run scored by the Saints.
Asperger played in a very familiar place for him, as third base has been his primary position during his two seasons with Santa Barbara City College.
Although he has more starts at first with the Saints, he shared how he enjoys playing at each respective hot corner, saying "I feel more comfortable there then I do at first but I like playing both [as] their both fun."
Barons played the small ball in the sixth, scoring seven runs. Asperger fielded bunts and shared how in those situations he "read it off the bat and got a good first step."
The Barons were able to tack on five more runs in the seventh and eighth inning.
As the Saints take the road this weekend, they eagerly wait to get back into the win column.
Arroyo Seco looks ahead to a three game series against the Blues (16-4) in San Luis Obispo. Friday June 26 game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Sinsheimer Stadium.
