Saints go down early, can’t catch up in loss to Foresters
The Arroyo Seco Saints swept in their season series against the Foresters.
PASADENA, CA — The Saints (6-13) couldn't recover after giving up runs in five straight innings, including a six-run fourth, falling to the Foresters (18-3) 22-2 in their first game of the homestand.
Starting pitcher Wyatt Toth (Undecided) cruised through his first two innings, retiring the first six batters in order before struggling in the third and fourth. Toth struck out five in his four innings of work and was hurt by the three errors his defense committed.
The fourth inning was rough for the Saints defense, committing two errors and allowing six unearned runs, chasing Toth from the game. The Saints committed three errors in a game for the first time in two weeks.
The Saints' biggest highlight came in the form of a Sean Asperger (Undecided) home run in the bottom of the sixth, going 375 feet to right field. Asperger extended his hitting streak to four games, with both of his home runs coming in his recent hot streak.
The Foresters forced a rare poor game from the Saints offense, holding an offense that was averaging 6.7 runs per game to two runs.
Today, Brayden Flores (Loyola Marymount University), Jacob Freer (Santa Clara University), Zach Leite (Old Dominion University), and Joe O'Regan (Undecided) were all nominated for the CCL All-Star team. Flores leads the Saints in most offensive categories, including batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging.
The Saints look to bounce back tomorrow with Edwin Segovia (Azusa Pacific University) on the mound against the Barons (11-8). Arroyo Seco enters the matchup hoping to tip the scales in its favor after losing its previous two games to the Barons.
