SANTA BARBARA, CA – With the season series on the line Thursday night at Pershing Park, the Saints failed to maintain their red-hot offensive production. Coming into the game averaging 8.6 runs per game after the showcase game, the Saints failed to score a run in this one.

Despite another strong outing from starter Carter Herrera (Cal State San Bernardino), the Saints could not muster any run support for him.

Herrera’s final stat line for the game ended as six innings pitched, one hit allowed, zero earned runs, and five strikeouts. While Herrera did allow two runs, neither of the two were earned. In the bottom of the third, tied 0-0, with two outs, a throwing error on a potential inning-ending ground ball put the go-ahead run in scoring position.

Similar to his last outing in Santa Barbara, an error kept an inning alive, and the Foresters were able to capitalize against Herrera. A two-run home run in the third gave the Foresters their first lead at 2-0.

Herrera would stay in and recover nicely, holding the Saints’ deficit at two runs through the sixth. Replacing Herrera was right-hander Jameson Ferraro (BYU). Despite allowing three hits in the inning, excellent defensive work held the Foresters scoreless in the seventh.

Aiden Vanvickle (Longwood) would finish the game on the mound for the Saints. Unfortunately, the Foresters were able to connect on another home run ball in the eighth, extending their lead to four.

Offensively, this was a tough outing at the plate for the team; the Saints were held hitless in this matchup. With no life at the plate in this one, the Saints would go on to lose 4-0.

Despite dropping the season series against the Foresters, the Arroyo Seco Saints are still in a prime position to make a run at a CCL State Championship; they’ll be back in action Friday in San Luis Obispo. Friday night’s game will be the first of a three-game series against the Blues.
